Silicon carbide, also known as moissanite and emery, is an inorganic substance with a chemical formula of SiC.
Silicon carbide is classified into black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide according to its color. According to the shape classification, there are silicon carbide blocks and silicon carbide powder.
The manufacturing process of Silicon Carbide :
The common method is to mix quartz sand with coke, use the silica and petroleum coke, add wood chips, put it into an electric furnace, heat it to a high temperature of about 2000 °C, and obtain silicon carbide after various chemical processes. To green silicon carbide, add salt.
Advantages of Silicon Carbide:
1.Stable chemical properties
2.High thermal conductivity
3.Small thermal expansion coefficient
4.Good wear resistance
5.Heat shock resistance
6.small volume
7.Light weight and high strength
Silicon carbide applications:
1. As an abrasive, it can be used as a grinding tool, such as grinding wheel, oil stone, grinding head, sand tile, etc.
2. As a metallurgical deoxidizer and high temperature resistant material.
3. High-purity single crystals can be used to make semiconductors and silicon carbide fibers.
4. Can be used as a deoxidizer for steel making and a modifier for cast iron construction.
